Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in Laamu, a remote atoll far to the south of the Maldives, and its isolation is the point. Reached by a long flight and a boat, it sits above one of the finest house reefs in the country, its overwater and beach villas built simply from timber and thatch, barefoot by nature rather than by theme.
What sets Laamu apart is how seriously it takes its place. A marine biology team studies the reef and the manta and turtle life around it, sustainability runs through the kitchens and the buildings, and much of the day turns naturally toward the water. It is a quiet, thoughtful, environmentally aware kind of luxury, one that leaves you feeling closer to the ocean rather than merely beside it.
Days follow the water. You snorkel the house reef straight from the villa, join the marine team to look for mantas and turtles, and eat food grown and caught with care. The pace is slow and barefoot: hammocks over the lagoon, long lunches, evenings under a dark sky. Little here pulls you away from the ocean, and that is the intention.
