Set inside historic Galle Fort, Amangalla reflects centuries of maritime heritage through restored architecture, quiet courtyards and a deep connection to Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Galle Fort has always been a meeting point between cultures, shaped by ocean journeys, trade routes and generations of people who lived within its walls. Amangalla continues this story through carefully preserved architecture and spaces that carry the character of another era. More than a place to stay, it offers a window into the rhythm of the fort itself, where history remains part of everyday life.
Days at Amangalla move with the pace of the old city. Walk through narrow streets lined with historic buildings, observe daily life unfolding within the fort and return to shaded verandas and peaceful spaces that reflect the character of Galle.

We include Amangalla because it preserves one of Sri Lanka’s most important cultural landscapes. Its significance lies not only in architecture and heritage, but in allowing travellers to experience Galle Fort as a living place rather than a historic monument.

Amangalla stands on Church Street inside the ramparts of Galle Fort, the seventeenth-century Dutch town on Sri Lanka's south coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is around two hours from Colombo along the southern expressway, with Mattala airport in the south a shorter drive.
The fort itself is the experience, and it lies at the door. The ramparts, the old churches and warehouses, the galleries and cafes are all a short walk away, and the beaches and whale waters of the south coast are within easy reach. Our designers arrange the private transfers and the walks through the living fort.
