Rising above the Galle Face waterfront, ITC Ratnadipa is the collection's contemporary chapter of Colombo, a design-led hotel where Sri Lankan craftsmanship and modern architecture meet at the edge of the Indian Ocean.
Ratnadipa was an old name for this island, the island of gems, and the hotel that carries it now stands where contemporary Colombo meets the sea. Its towers rise between the Indian Ocean and Beira Lake, joined high above the city by a sky bridge, yet the architecture keeps turning homeward: terraces that cascade like the tea gardens of Nuwara Eliya, lotus motifs in the lobby, local artistry in the detail. This is not international luxury borrowed for Colombo, but a confident, modern Sri Lanka expressed in steel, light and craft, and rooted in the culture it rises from.
Mornings begin high above the city, the ocean on one side and the lake on the other, the light coming up over Colombo. Days move between contemporary spaces and Sri Lankan flavours, then out into the streets and galleries of the capital. There is swimming a hundred metres up, an hour in the spa, and the quiet return, at day's end, to a room that holds the whole city below.

Every collection of Colombo needs its contemporary chapter, and this is ours. Where our other city stays look to heritage and family, ITC Ratnadipa looks forward, to a Sri Lanka confident in its own design and hospitality. We choose it for travellers who want to feel the modern capital, its architecture, its art, its energy, before the island's older rhythms take over. It is the sharp, current opening note to a longer journey.

ITC Ratnadipa stands on the Galle Face waterfront, at the meeting point of the Indian Ocean and Beira Lake, in the heart of the city yet open to the sea. From here Colombo is yours to read at height and on foot, its galleries and markets, its restaurants and old quarters gathered around a hotel that looks out over all of it.
It makes an elegant place to begin. A night or two here sets the contemporary note of the capital before the journey turns inland and south, to the ancient cities, the hills and the coast. Our designers arrange the private transfer and the passage from city to island, so the first chapter flows easily into the next.
