Set within seven acres of tropical garden near Colombo, this restored colonial manor turns arrival into the first act of a journey, easing travellers gently into the rhythm of Sri Lanka.
Set deep in seven acres of tropical garden on the quiet edge of Colombo, The Wallawwa is a colonial manor house restored with unusual care, its old proportions and verandahs left intact while the gardens grew up around them. It carries the unhurried confidence of another century. Placed at the start of a journey, it does something few hotels attempt: it slows you down, letting the long hours of travel fall away before the island proper begins, so that arrival itself becomes part of the journey.
The days here keep their own slow time. Mornings open with birdsong and a long breakfast on the verandah. The heat of the afternoon belongs to the shade, the pool and an unfinished book. As the light softens the gardens fill with scent, and dinner beneath the trees gives way, easily, to the deepest sleep of the trip.

The stillness of a manor between flights
A gentle beginning to the island ahead
We open almost every Sri Lanka journey here, and rarely anywhere else. The value of The Wallawwa lies not in what it offers but in what it does: it settles a traveller after a long flight and tunes them to the island's pace before the first true chapter begins. A journey that starts in a rush tends to stay that way. One that begins in these gardens begins well.

The Wallawwa lies at Kotugoda, in the green and unhurried country between the international airport and the city, close to both yet caught up in neither.
It is positioned with intent, as the opening or closing chapter of a Sri Lanka journey rather than a stop beside the runway. Arriving, you pass from the terminal into gardens within the half hour; leaving, you gather the journey together here before the short drive to depart. The private transfer and the quiet welcome are arranged by our designers, so the transition is felt as rest rather than logistics.
