Set within the streets of Galle Fort, Fort Bazaar reflects the area’s merchant history through restored architecture, thoughtful design and a connection to contemporary coastal culture.
For centuries, Galle Fort has been shaped by traders, travellers and communities who brought different influences to its streets. Today, the fort continues to evolve through restored buildings, creative spaces and the daily rhythm of those who call it home. Fort Bazaar sits within this changing landscape, connecting the character of the past with the energy of the present.
Days at Fort Bazaar unfold through the details of the old city. Explore quiet lanes, independent shops, galleries and coastal viewpoints before returning to a restored merchant house that reflects Galle’s continuing story.

We include Fort Bazaar because it represents the living side of Galle Fort. Beyond its historic setting, it offers travellers a connection to the people, creativity and cultural layers that continue to shape one of Sri Lanka’s most distinctive places.

Fort Bazaar stands on Church Street inside the walls of Galle Fort, the seventeenth-century Dutch town on Sri Lanka's south coast and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is around two hours from Colombo along the southern expressway, with Mattala airport in the south a shorter drive.
The fort is the whole of it. The ramparts, the lighthouse, the galleries, shops and cafes are all within a short walk of the door, and the beaches and whale waters of the south coast lie a little beyond. Our designers arrange the private transfers and the walks through the living fort.
