A restored tea estate bungalow high in the Hanthana hills above Kandy, W15 Hanthana marks the quiet passage from city to highlands, its terraces open to mist, forest and mountain.
The Hanthana range rises southwest of Kandy, a line of hills long held in Sri Lankan affection, walked and sung about for generations. W15 Hanthana sits high among them, a restored tea estate bungalow given over to the view. Here the country changes. The heat of the lowlands falls away, mist moves through the forest and the tea, and the city loosens its hold. To arrive is to feel the island tilt upward into its highlands, where distance, elevation and quiet restore a sense of perspective.
Mornings come slowly here, the mountains emerging from mist as the valley fills with light. You walk the estate trails with a naturalist, watch for birds and butterflies in the forest, or simply sit with the long view over the hills. Kandy and its temple lie a short drive below, but the pleasure is the return, to cool air, falling light and the quiet of the highlands.

We place W15 Hanthana at the threshold of the highlands, the point where a journey leaves the cities behind and turns toward the hills. It is small and personal, a handful of suites on a mountain estate, and its restraint lets the setting lead. For travellers moving from Kandy into tea country and beyond, it offers elevation, quiet and a genuine connection to the landscape, an unhurried gateway to the higher country ahead.

W15 Hanthana sits in the Hanthana hills about fifteen minutes above Kandy, roughly three hours from Colombo and its Bandaranaike International Airport. Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth lie a short drive below, with the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya and the Ceylon Tea Museum nearby on the same road.
Yet the estate is a destination in itself. The walking trails of Hanthana begin at the door, and the pleasure of staying is the elevation and quiet, the city close enough to reach yet far enough to leave behind. Our designers arrange the private transfer and the guided walks, so the highlands open at an unhurried pace.
